YunExpress USPS tracking: how the handoff works in the US
Learn how YunExpress parcels move to USPS in the United States, when the same YT number works, and what to do if tracking stops after arrival.
If your parcel came from China through YunExpress and is headed to a US address, USPS is often the company that finishes the delivery. That is why many buyers see YunExpress updates first, then a quieter period, then USPS scans near the end.
The part that trips people up is the handoff. Sometimes the same YT number keeps working after the parcel reaches the United States. Sometimes YunTrack shows a separate last mile number. You need to check both.
Does YunExpress use USPS?
Often yes, for US deliveries. YunExpress handles the cross-border part of the route, then USPS may take over for the final mile.
This does not happen on every shipment, but it is common enough that "YunExpress USPS tracking" has become its own search pattern.
How do I track a YunExpress parcel after it reaches the US?
Start with the original YT code on YunExpress tracking. Then do two things:
- Check whether Parcel Detect identified USPS as the next carrier.
- Test the same
YTnumber on USPS tracking, especially after the parcel has cleared customs.
If YunTrack or Parcel Detect shows a second number for the local carrier, use that one too. It can show better delivery-side scans than the export-side record.
What usually happens before USPS gets the parcel?
The normal flow looks like this:
- YunExpress receives the parcel in China.
- The parcel moves through export processing.
- Tracking may pause during line haul or customs.
- USPS or another US carrier receives the shipment.
- Final delivery scans appear closer to the destination address.
That quiet gap in the middle is common. It feels worse than it usually is.
Why does YunExpress stop updating before USPS starts?
Because the parcel is between systems. One company has finished its visible part of the route, and the other has not posted the next public scan yet.
This is especially common when:
- the parcel just landed in the US;
- customs processing is still underway;
- the local carrier has the shipment but has not posted the first scan;
- the weekend slowed down the handoff.
If the parcel is already in the US and there is no new movement for a few days, read the latest YunExpress event carefully. If it suggests handoff completion or Track End, move to the USPS side of the search.
What if USPS says the number is not found?
That can mean:
- the handoff has not happened yet;
- USPS has the parcel but has not scanned it publicly yet;
- the local carrier is not USPS for that shipment;
- YunTrack created a separate last mile number and you are still using the export-side code.
Wait 24 to 48 hours, then check again. If the parcel already shows arrival in the United States but you still cannot find a local scan after several business days, ask the seller whether a separate USPS number exists.
What if USPS says delivered but I do not have the package?
Check:
- the mailbox;
- parcel lockers;
- front desk or reception;
- porch or side entrance;
- neighbors or other household members.
If the delivery scan is on the USPS side, contact USPS first. If the carrier cannot resolve it, send the seller the order ID and the final tracking result.
