International Purchase
Fee Calculator
Find out how much your bank charges in hidden fees when you buy from AliExpress, Shopee or any international store — and how much you could save with a no-fee card.
What is a foreign transaction fee?
Most standard credit and debit cards charge a fee of 1.5%–3% every time you make a purchase in a foreign currency. In Brazil, there is an additional IOF tax of 6.38% on top of the bank's own spread — making the real cost of an AliExpress purchase nearly 10% higher than the listed price.
How do no-fee cards work?
Cards from fintechs like Wise, Revolut, Nomad (Brazil), and Jenius (Indonesia) convert your purchase at or near the interbank rate, charging only a small conversion fee (typically 0.4%–0.7%). This can save you 5%–9% on every international purchase compared to a traditional bank card.
Why does the price differ from AliExpress?
AliExpress and Shopee list prices in USD or CNY. When you pay in your local currency, your bank applies its own exchange rate, which is always worse than the interbank rate shown here. Our calculator uses the live interbank rate so you can see the full gap.
What about PayPal and Shopee Pay?
PayPal adds its own currency conversion fee (3%–4%) on top of what your bank charges. Shopee Pay and similar wallet services vary by country. The safest approach is always to pay in the store's original currency and let your no-fee card handle the conversion.
