YunExpress tracking not updating: what to do when scans stop
If YunExpress tracking stopped moving, check the most common causes, the normal waiting windows, and when it makes sense to contact the seller.
YunExpress tracking often goes quiet in the middle of the route. It happens often enough that it deserves its own page. The hard part is telling the difference between an ordinary scan gap and a real problem.
Most of the time, the answer is boring: the label was created before pickup, the parcel is between export and import, or the next carrier has not published its scan yet.
Why does YunExpress tracking stop updating?
The usual reasons are:
- the seller created the label before the parcel was scanned;
- the parcel is moving between China facilities;
- the parcel is in line haul to the destination country;
- customs is still processing the shipment;
- YunExpress handed the parcel to a local carrier;
- the last mile carrier has a second number you have not checked yet.
This is why a quiet tracking page is frustrating but not automatically a bad sign.
How long should I wait before worrying?
Use a simple timeline:
24-48 hours: normal if the seller just marked the order as shipped;3 business days: reasonable point to ask the seller to confirm the tracking number if there is still no first scan;5 business days: reasonable point to ask whether another carrier has taken over if the parcel had real movement before;7+ business days: worth escalating if the parcel is stuck on the same event and there is no last mile update.
That timeline is more useful than guessing based on one scary status line.
What should I check before contacting support?
Check these first:
- The last full scan on YunExpress tracking.
- Whether the parcel already reached the destination country.
- Whether a second carrier or last mile number appears.
- Whether the parcel is US-bound and should now show on USPS tracking.
- Whether a weekend or holiday explains the gap.
If you skip these steps, you usually end up asking the seller a question they cannot answer yet.
What if the parcel is stuck before the first scan?
That usually means the seller created a shipping label before the parcel physically entered the YunExpress network.
Wait 24 to 48 hours first. If there is still no first scan after three business days, message the seller and ask them to confirm:
- the full tracking number;
- the ship date;
- whether the parcel has actually been handed to YunExpress.
What if the parcel stops after export from China?
That is one of the most common YunExpress patterns. The parcel may still be moving, but the next public event does not appear until customs or the destination carrier posts a new scan.
If you see airport departure, customs, destination arrival, or Track End, the right next step is often to look for the local delivery carrier rather than refreshing the same YunExpress page.
When should I contact the seller instead of the carrier?
Contact the seller first if:
- there is no first scan;
- the shipment is linked to a marketplace order;
- the destination looks wrong;
- the parcel has stalled for several business days and you still do not have a local carrier number.
Contact the last mile carrier first if:
- the parcel is already out for delivery;
- it shows delivered but you did not receive it;
- the local carrier requests address confirmation or pickup.
